Bobby Rogers, “Lightning” of Hope

Bobby Rogers “Lightning” was born on July 4, 1936 to Sam Rogers and Queen Esther Batch in Hope, Arkansas.  He departed this life on December 18, 2018 at his home.

He was employed at Hope Novelty & Vending Company for 56 years and was a car salesman, repo man, and just a jack of all trades until his health failed.

He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, James Jones, Luke Rogers and John Henry Daniels; three sisters, Lucille Jones, Zeta Belle Daniels and Maggie Lee.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Vertestene Rogers of 61 years; a sister, Dorothy Flenory of Hope; nine children, Sylvia Tomlin (David) of Lancaster, VA, Barbara Bishop (Jerry) of Manhattan, KS, Patteri Rogers Kirby of Hope, AR, Adriane (Denise) Rogers of Dayton, OH, Avery “Steffon” Rogers (Diane) of Hope, Daryl Holyfield (Deborah) of Texarkana, AR, Derek Rogers of Hope, Stanley Rogers of Little Rock and Alex Rogers (Tiffany) of Nashville, AR; three grandchildren that were adopted Corey Brown of Little Rock, Atherlene Harris “Poni” and Exavier Rogers “Man” both of Hope; just like a son, Terry Trotter of Little Rock, AR.  He was blessed to have 27 grandchildren, 39+ great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 12-2pm Monday, December 24 at the funeral home.  Funeral services will be 11am Wednesday, December 26 at Rising Star Baptist Church, Hope.  Burial will be at Snell Cemetery in Emmet.  Arrangements entrusted to Hicks Funeral Home, Inc.
